Dan Young – Research Consultant

What do you do?
I use focus groups, interviews and surveys to help companies unpick their problems and understand their audiences. Sometimes it’s consumers, sometimes it’s opinion formers, and sometimes it’s their own employees. Then I use what I’ve found to help businesses solve problems and make better decisions.
Why do you do it?
I like changing complexity into simplicity. I enjoy taking lots of different views, behaviours and information, and distilling all that into single insights. And I like seeing businesses take those insights and act on them.
What do you like to do when you’re not at work?
I love to eat. To feed this habit (sorry), I cook in an unprofessional capacity. Of course, this gluttony has to be offset. So I try to run, swim and play squash, as much as is possible with three small children. I’m also a school governor of my local infants school and mentor some of the children there.
What are you reading at the moment?
While this sounds like a set up for a punch line, I assure you it’s true. I’m reading a book on speed reading. It’s taking me ages.
