Claire Harcup – Director of Copy

What do you do?

I head up Quietroom’s writing team, wrangling copy to make sure we deliver exactly what clients need. This means I’m the quality control for our projects – and a sounding board for ideas. On top of this, I run workshops on writing techniques that pass our skills on to others.

Why do you do it?

I was the little girl who thought books were her best friends. When I was eight I asked for a torch for my birthday. I didn’t tell my parents that it was so I could read under my bedclothes long after I was supposed to be asleep. But of course they knew.

That love of words never went away. Nor did the practical side of me that wanted a torch to solve the problem of the lights-out curfew that spoiled my reading. So I combined the two. Now I get a kick out of using language to help solve the problems our clients face.

What do you like to do when you’re not at work?

I’m often to be found in cinemas, theatres and bookshops. I’m also a scribbler, and my first children’s picture book  came out in 2017.

What’s your favourite film?

I always return to My Life as a Dog . It’s a bittersweet gem, and who can resist ‘I’ve got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts’ in Swedish?
